Rather than speaking about Muslim communities, this project creates space for Muslim Texans to tell their own stories on their own terms. Along the way, we complicate familiar narratives about a state that is more diverse, more contested, and more influential than many Americans realize.

Through conversations with artists, entrepreneurs, educators, religious leaders, community organizers, and families, we reveal the richness and diversity of Muslim lives across the state.We also examine how stories about Muslims told by politicians, the media, and popular culture shape broader debates about religion, race, democracy, and belonging—not only in Texas, but across the nation.

By expanding the public narrative, we show that Muslim stories are not separate from the Texas story—they are essential to understanding Texas and, increasingly, America.
